I noticed the original expose on the controversial memorial DLC has locked comments and hasn’t been updated.

That’s not cool as if no one is going to update it I’ll do it but I can’t lol

Either way please make a way for users to update your excellent back catalogue especialky within months….or please have someone update such controversial and relevant landmark cases like this and say no man’s sky.

As fans will sit there and look at your old videos and you yourself jim encourage this via remastered work.

Thanks.

The gold package or season pass gives you extra tribes…when they are available.

They’re not out for a while so not nec. Day one DLC or removed content which should be mentioned as the above video implies that if you pay more in day 1 you get more…you don’t . .except useless coins.

Jim, I’m playing the game on ps4. It’s a great game or it would be if there wasn’t this loot box system. Now this is where even you go wrong. It’s not the microtransactions which are the problem or critics glossing over but the uselessness of the transactions. But the failed need for microtransactions. Let me explain. If you place added grind with loot boxes and microtransaction to avoid the grind and damages gameplay overall while becoming a pay to win game then that’s one game ruining business model we can moan about. But with shadow of mordor it’s very… Read more »

i hear what you saying but to me the fact that the publisher insisted that microstransactions be implemented at all is the issue, in a single player game. So while it doesn’t affect the actual game-play (seems to differ quite a lot between reviewers) or story the insidiousness of what the publisher has attempted (meaning if they can get extra cash then why not) needs to be called out and hopefully stopped.

Never stop bringing up the bullshit of microtransactions in full price retail games. I recently had a WB employee that worked on Shadow of More Dollars for 2 years tell me that if I don’t like it to shut up with my complaints because complaining doesn’t do anything and just not buy it. He told me complaining does nothing and that nobody is convinced by complaints.

Hey Jim, Just joined up. Loving your content and getting more and more pissed off with this industry. I sent you an email earlier asking your opinions on microstransactions and if it was possible to stop them. At least from these comments down below, I believe i have found a safe place to vent my frustration at the gaming industry. For all the other guys here, HI! and do any of you think there is a way for what seems like a small minority of gamers that want to change the industry regarding microtransactions?

Yes its easy. Jims already covered it too as hes the boss. One way is to get rid of publishers. Self publish via digital like ninja theory did and hellblade. Then make more money by charging less and using social media for marketing and forums etc. And then refuse microtransaction in form of loot boxes and currency but say yes to story DLC. That skips the publisher and their bs and the high costs needed for aaa promotion etc. The only issues are not everyone can so this…and it looses physical copies (and consuner rights) and in time the same… Read more »

so effectively we have to choose the lesser of two or three evils? Either ESRB\Government get involved and our games get regulated, either. (I know ESRB say it’s not gambling but if it was overturned), let publishers keep doing this and we don’t play the games because “vote with your wallet” or what you have suggested but lose physical copies and only pay for a license. I think the ESRB should then attempt another look. They probably won’t though. I think that might be the best option but haven’t thought in depth about the outcome what might happen if that… Read more »

Without a majority unfortunately all I can suggest is – Put money towards good deals and good publishers – not developers. Developers don’t have a say in the matter. Don’t stop making noise if a developer mistreats you with shitty business practices even if others tell you to stop (it worked for Payday 2). If you really want to play microtransactions loaded games in spite of the microtransactions, always buy the copy used (who’d have thunk endorsing this practice could be seen as a good thing?) or wait for a sale. (The benefit of this is that if it’s an… Read more »

Will the Bullshit Roundup also transit to video format?

Are the animations less fluid than they’ve been showing, or is that my imagination?

Now we wait for the inevitable lootbox simulator on steam.

I fully agree with your idea of buying the base game.
I was just going to grab it from RedBox and wait the 6-8 months for the “Complete” edition to be released… and it will be released, every WB game (except Arkham Origins) has had a complete version released within 6-8-12 months of the original game. Usually closer to the median, than the full year, to really catch people.

I am disappointed this wasn’t called “First Jimpressions” given both the fact that it was your first time playing the game and your plan to release more JImpressions on it later as per your new review plan. “First Jimpressions” for the first video, “Second Jimpressions” for the follow up, etc. just seems right to me, but hey, that’s just my opinion on the series titles.

Other than that nitpicking, I enjoyed it quite a bit.

Aside from the gameplay (which looks really good) and the microtransactions (which look really awful), am I the only one who thinks the UI looks really cluttered and chaotic?

Chris Topher

It is a mess and at times controlling stuff is a night mate with so much info hurled at you while you’re trying to fight (not die) and do challenges and lead a horde lol

Ugh. I want to play this game and enjoy it, but fuck WB and Monolith’s greed. I’m probably going to buy a used copy just to give them the middle finger because they don’t deserve my money.

Chris Topher

Actually I felt that way until i played it. It’s amazing. Why you can do is buy from eBay used right now and pay a few £$ less but stop warners getting your cash..but you get the game.

The micro transactions are totally useless and not needed. They are annoying and in your face but you don’t need them and can ignore them after an hour.

Imo.

There was also an impression on the RPS site. I usually disagree with all their game and tech reviews but their news coverage is good. If they say a game is good it’s usually not comaptible with my tastes.
Anyway they said if you play SoW with some thoughtful planning they got than enough legendary Orcs and gear – and never felt inclined to buy any boxes. Their impression (so far) end in the 7th (of 10) stage fight of the last scenario or whatever.
So I am really curious on how Jim experiences that (and how he evades the breadcrumb-lead).

Don’t agree with Battlefront being a good game, it was tiresome, repetitive and a hollow shell. BF2 looks good though.

Chris Topher

Agree about bf1 is deeply flawed with the worse DLC plan ice ever seen in aaa.

Sadly swbf2 has microtransaction pay to win systems which are much much worse and are like SOW really in your face but worse…

You can pay to be better and so cheat the game in swbf2 and so almost pointless to play unless you except that it’s rigged.

But we will all buy it as its starwars and has a single player campaign now.

Don’t be tricked though..worse microtransaction I’ve ever seen in aaa on the beta.

Nitrium

… except for the fact that ALL character/weapon upgrades are ENTIRELY gated behind RNG lootboxes which you can earn in game via ridiculous amounts of grinding or buy with real world money.

machine_dirty

Yeah that part is lousy, i’m mainly looking forward to the fact that BF2 actually has a proper campaign and it looks damn good.

Chris

Buying the game, whether you buy the microtransactions or not, supports this bullshit. The industry won’t change until we stop enabling it.

Chris Topher

No that’s not true .

Buying new from shops supports publisher but buying used on eBay gives them zero money and stops production.

That’s why they want used games banned and only digital and that’s why DLC exists because of used market. They needed ways to get used copy users to pay direct so they make dlc.

But gee, the game’s defenders told me the orc was a deliberate reference to an antisemitic meme to show that Monolith secretly hate all those microtransactions they put in the game… and livestreamed themselves promoting… and did an interview with Eurogamer where they lied and said they didn’t make the game a massive grind so as to push them? I mean, it couldn’t be people grasping at straws to excuse Monolith so as not to derail their hype for Shadow of War, right? (Also I’m glad to see Jimpressions coming to the main JQ site – it’s much easier to… Read more »

Have noticed in the Battlefront 2 beta also that the only way you can level up and improve your gear is through loot boxes…and guess where you have to go to open those up every damn time? Yup…the lootbox store page with the gloriously named pay2earn ones just a single press below the ones you already obtained. Not on a different tab, no, the exact same list. Fucking insidious and shameless entwined. Oh and the ‘true’ currency attainment is tighter than their mum’s rigid c-skeleton-warrior-t.

Chris Topher

The new swbf2 pay to win system is really horrible and in your face and for and a huge issue.

It’s pay to win 100% and it should be boycotted until they make it cosmetic only or story dlc.

But it’s starwars and so forget about that…

machine_dirty

Not to mention there are legendary star cards you can ONLY get through lootboxes.

Gorantharon

Let’s not forget that forget the several tiers of lootboxes and that some of the loot is only available in the most expensive ones that for a not paying player take even longer to grind for.
