Podquisition Episode 102: Pounded In The Butt

On a poundin’ episode of Podquisition, your WILD CARD Jim Sterling is revealed to be appearing in an actual Chuck Tingle game.

Also, some AAA publishers don’t like him very much.

Elsewhere, we talk about Owlboy, Battlefield 1, and naturally dissect the Nintendo Switch. WILD CARD!

The thing that is impressive about how bad the xbox one ui is that they have a share function… but you have to double tap the home button, press x to record, go to the video by pressing home twice, going to your alerts, opening the video and then sharing it. Of course though this by default will only record the last 30 seconds unless you go through the clusterfuck that is the options menu. But the other logical option to quickly make a clip of something cool/bad/funny during gameplay is to double tap the home button, go down to… Read more »

Audio is pretty rough this week. Very hard to follow the flow of the conversation.

What I got was books pounding other books in the butt, which is just a rip off of Patrick Stewart and Whoopi Goldberg from the Page Master, The Walking Dead is one bad death away from alienating all its remaining fans, and Nintendo reads too much Fifty Shades of Mario.

I’ve always felt that the Battlefield series was pretty well received, not sure why liking it would provoke much consternation.

People only remember the good games that Bethesda has released they forget things like Brink which was released in a terrible state, Rage which was mediocre at best and had issues on PC, Hunted: The Demons Forge (i bet no one remembers that one), hell the PS3 version of Skyrim remains a mess to this day. There’s no reason to trust Bethesda without reviews and I’m probably going to delay my purchase of dishonored out of spite, not like there isn’t plenty of other games coming out November that will have reviews on launch.

Gavin, I agree. For me: The main reason I read Jim’s reviews is because I like reading his work.

That’s not to say, Jim, that your work has no influence on my purchases. Mostly your reporting on shitty company behaviour does that….but I have to say that your Star Fox Zero review did scare me away. lol

Total biscuit has never appealed much personally, seems a nice enough guy and has some sort of loyal following, but something puts me off. I think it might be his matter-of-fact delivery that comes off a bit too cold for me. Doesn’t allow that element of humanity to shine through. People appear to dig that style, but tis not for thee. Oh well.

Anyway, it’s always fun to listen to 3 grown adults talk about pounding each other in the butt, great material for my night terrors! WILD CARDS, FEMALE DOG SLURS!!!

I think Total Biscuit was right when he said that review scores need to die off, i’ve never found them useful, Metacritic has done far more harm then good and is far too influential.

I think there are better looking games then Battlefield 1 like Dying Light, Quantum Break and Mankind Divided,

Battlefield 1 just is not the direction I wanted the franchise to go in, I wanted Bad Company 3, not whatever the unholy fuck BF1 is.

I honestly greatly enjoy Laura’s articles. I think she is a great writer even if I don’t always agree politically. But can someone please tell me what the value is of knowing a things name ahead of time? I honestly don’t know what the point of that is. Sure people like to know, so it provides that service. But am I missing anything outside of scoop value that being the first to puzzle together a reveal. If it reveals a problem I could see it, and at a stretch I can see the point of knowing that it won’t be… Read more »

Hey Gavin, Total Biscuit recently did a WTF is video of Shadow Warrior 2, he was really let down by that game for a lot of reasons(I.E. the boring loot system, the enemies being too bullet-spongy, the semi-procedurally generated environments, the pointless elemental system, running out of ammo too quickly, etc) maybe his video can help pinpoint you on why you don’t see yourself finishing the game. Personally I think it looks good, but my current PC is nowhere near powerful enough to run it, so i’ll have to wait until next year when it comes out on consoles, maybe… Read more »

I actually liked Walking Dead Season 2 fine enough, and I deliberately watched up through the end of Season 3 with the intent that I wouldn’t watch anything beyond that because it ends *comparatively* hopefully. It seemed like a good point to leave it off, and I feel I cherry-picked the overall best package of the show for my tastes, personally.

Gamestop thankfully has more common sense then GAME as they do not charge people for VR demos.

Game of Thrones is far too nihilistic for me to get into, it suffers from TV Tropes calls Darkness Induced Audience Apathy, I just can’t care about any of the characters knowing that any of them can die at any time.

I agree with Jim on TV becoming far too dark, I mostly prefer watching sitcoms because of that.

Well as Court of the Dead (the game Conrad is involved with) has sadly been cancelled this will be the third thing I’ve backed on Kickstarter.

I’m personally highly skeptical of the Switch myself, John Cheese wrote a really good article on Cracked called “Why Does Nintendo Keep Giving Gamers What They Don’t Want?” that pretty much sums up my own thoughts.

Xbox One is not “obsolete” at all, especially considering it’s outsold the PS4 for the past three months.

For me the PS4 is a bit toss.

I couldn’t give less of a fuck about the Xbox One not having a share button, I share Yahtzee’s lack of enthusiasm for it.

All praise The Goddess! The show is here!
For a brief moment, I was worried that the podcast wasn’t going to go up. I love listening to this show when I get home from work.

…Please forgive my lack of faith!! Jim I beseech you! I humbly beg for some of your divine punishment.
