I ended up grabbing Nioh after reading/watching various reviews. Very happy I did, it’s been a while since I’ve adored a game this hard. Gameplay just clicks for me, and I love how it handles it’s world building by pulling from historic sources.

I also enjoy how it’s not completely poe-faced either. There’s a certain scene (after an early boss) involving a NPC and a household animal that caught me completely off guard. The hardest I laughed at a game in a long time.

    • Mewshuji

Said household animal species was used by samurai and ninja to tell time, by looking at their eyes. Hence “dawn is breaking”. I’m sure they weren’t handled in the way that one was though… lol

      • Polishfury5000

Yeah, it inspired me to look it up the legitimacy of using those as time pieces. Still, it was the last thing I expected to see happen, just out of nowhere lol.

Completely broke me from my focused state the boss put me in a minute earlier, absolutely loved it.

  • Terriosaurus Hex

You have to pay to be in E3?? Say whaaaa?? You have to pay to watch advertisement now? Fuck that noise. We have reached a new peak of capitalism.

Am going to be a cowardly diplomat and agree with Gav and the others on Yakuza 0 simultaneously, as Saint’s Row really is a thing I can’t appreciate as much as others seem to. It’s like the humour is a bit too predictable, lazy, cheap…Like those fucking scary movie shitfests. Maybe it’s an American thing, I don’t know. But I adore good comedy, and the saints row series always took the lowest hanging fruit in that regard, like hanging around with boys in school. It’s better when stoned, but I don’t find that a plus in humour, as GTA is still far funnier when stoned AND sober.
And I always remember the well written half serious parts of saints row more. At the same time though, wacky humour is more surprising when from a different culture, so Yakuza 0 still intrigues me on that front. Less predictable and more curiousity is what it has over saint’s row, personally speaking. It may not be that way for people more experienced in Japanese comedy, I cannot say.

    • diamond

Well regular people have been sneaking into E3 for years, so to me it makes perfect sense to open E3 to the public and start actually charging people for it.

Agree on Saints Row, I don’t hate any of the games in the series, but for me 1 and 2 were definitely superior games to 3 and 4, as the latter two got far too over-the-top at times for my tastes and the stories were less interesting. I’m surprised that people were OK with that series becoming more wacky but were not OK with Dead Rising becoming more silly despite SR starting out way more serious then DR did.

I personally think Scary Movie 1 and 2 are fucking hilarious(comedy is subjective, and plenty of people overseas find them funny as well), 3, 4 and 5 not so much.

Keep in mind everyone has their own definition of “good comedy”(i’m personally not a fan of Monty Python), I personally thought the Ghostbusters remake was by far one of the funniest films of last year, but I know many people will furiously disagree with me on that.

      • Terriosaurus Hex

Yeah, most of my friends like the movies too, I still watch with them, but I probably look like a miserable sod during, hehe! Am just the odd one out there. When typing, I didn’t mean “good comedy” objectively as was aware it’s very different for everybody, it was just a shorthand way of saying “stuff what I like” that probably wasn’t worded as well as it could have been, lol 🙂

      • MJC

What? Nobody criticised Dead Rising for becoming more silly. Dead Rising started off incredibly silly, and then got grimdark and serious in Dead Rising 3 and people complained about THAT.

And then people complained about Dead Rising 4 because it’s a shit game for twats that disrespects both the franchise’s staple gameplay mechanics and the character of Frank West by giving his name to a character that doesn’t look, sound, or act anything like him. Not because it was silly.

…And I almost overlooked that other thing you said, but you’re wrong there too. An absolute shitload of people were NOT okay with Saints Row becoming more wacky. Saints Row 3 got a lot of backlash for being way too wacky, for abandoning the more serious aspects that helped make Saints Row 2 so great. A lot of people had hoped that SR4 would go back to being more like SR2. It didn’t, but it managed to get away with it by just plain being a better game than SR3.

Basically you got everything backwards. Maybe your memory fails you or maybe you’re in extreme revisionist history mode, but either way you’re completely incorrect.

        • diamond

So you’re saying anyone that likes Dead Rising 4 is a “twat”? Wow you are a moron.

Basically you’ve got everything upside-down, sounds like you’re memory is failing and you’re the one spouting “revisionist history” dumbass, either way you are totally full of shit.

I didn’t think SR4 was better then 3 by any stretch, I thought it was worse because you were only fighting one enemy throughout the whole game instead of several(fighting nothing but aliens gets tiresome after a while) plus Steelport was already less interesting then Stillwater, so a virtual version of Steelport that’s always dark(and you stupidly aren’t able to change the color scheme of the sky til you beat the game, what kind of backwards logic is that?)and overall the whole game just feels like a less interesting version of Prototype, which was not at all what I personally wanted from the franchise.

I was fine with Frank’s character being different, at least he was still funny, I was certainly much more OK with his character change then I was with Shaundi’s, at least the new Frank was still funny and over-the-top, just in a different way then before. Shaundi on the other hand might as well have been a completely new character, as she’s suddenly turned super-serious almost all the time.

DR3 wasn’t really “grimdark” as it had even sillier combo weapons then previous games and still had plenty of over-the-top psychopaths.

    • Dream gazer

As far as paying for E3, I would suspect there are some marketing executives, now that influencers have become a significant and recognised media force, who would argue supporting Jim, Laura and others on Patreon is “paying for advertising”.

      • Terriosaurus Hex

True, marketing execs are strange creatures whom defy logical thinking. Patreon in these cases are still optional, also remember they are “wild cards” which isn’t what a marketing exec would usually consider a bankable (is that a word? I forgets) garuntee for their positive spotlight 😉

      • MJC

And what exactly is Jim advertising in episodes of the Jimquisition? His episode about Nintendo’s Virtual Console sure didn’t make me want to rush out and buy more Nintendo games. His Fuck Konami News segments don’t make me want to go buy Konami games. His latest episode about GameStop sure as shit didn’t have me rushing to the nearest GameStop store to give them all of my money.

If supporting Jim on Patreon is “paying for advertising”, then Jim’s the worst advertiser in the universe.

    • I’m going to have to quote Seanbaby when it comes to the vast majority of GTA’s humor:
“GTA V criticizes American culture with all the elegance of a grumpy pastor watching his first reality show. Missions have you acting as a paparazzo to catch a wholesome actress with a dong up her ass, massacring hallucinations after too much marijuana, and terrorizing immigrants. Most media outlets praise the game for outrageously mocking every aspect of Los Angeles, but it mocks them without any understanding or tact. If you held a gun to the head of the most secluded Eskimo seal farmer and said, “List California stereotypes,” you would not be able to distinguish his list from a GTA V Mission FAQ.

…If a forensic psychologist found a poem on a suicide victim called “WHY EVERYONE IN MY HIGH SCHOOL SUCKS,” his summary of that poem would be identical to any gag in Grand Theft Auto V.”

It’s more often than not too broad, thoughtless, or just deliberately punching down.

      • diamond

I think Seanbaby is a terrible writer honestly, he’s nowhere as funny or clever as he thinks he is, his critique of GTA V’s humor is totally nonsensical, very lazy and half-assed.

The article he wrote in Cracked was far more unfunny and painful then anything in the GTA games.

The humor is not “thoughtless” or “punching down” at all, if anything the game mostly punches up at rich people.

        • No way. The jokes in that article had way more thought put into them than 9 out of 10 of GTA’s potty mouthed Pisswasser jokes.

          • diamond

Not really no they did not, a first-grader could’ve written a better article.

          • Let’s be real here, you just don’t like it because it’s making fun of something you like and that’s colored your opinion of the writer.

          • diamond

Not really no, there’s plenty of articles on Cracked I don’t entirely agree with that are nonetheless well written, this is not one of those articles.

      • Terriosaurus Hex

That comes off more as someone who was insulted by it really. But GTA criticises modern culture, not just American culture. It’s always interesting to see people get offended by it though. Like Frankie Boyle, nobody gets away uncriticised, including and especially himself. 😉

        • diamond

Yean Seanbaby REALLY sucks as a writer, in that article he just sounded like a whiny crybaby.

          • Andrew Barloq

To be fair, Seanbaby will take a point and then exaggerate it for effect like he did here. Whether that’s to your preference or not is up to the reader, but I think he writes more for comic effect than to make an actual argument.

          • diamond

The problem for me is that he feels like trying way too hard and I find it very cringe-inducing and not remotely funny in the least.

          • Terriosaurus Hex

Never even heard of them before. Though am kinda newish to the whole game internet personality thing. Or whatever is best term for these entities. There are criticisms to be made with the series, as with most games, but that guy is masking his offense badly in the guise of criticism. Perhaps he is even aware of it now, considering it is apparently an old piece. People wise up through time.

        • “Criticism” is giving them too much credit. GTA takes extremely broad stereotypes and caricatures and digitizes them, and then gives you a gun and says “Ha ha they sure are dumb, aren’t they?”

          • diamond

That’s not really true at all, that’s a very narrow-minded assessment of the game. Angry Joe did a good job summing up why GTA V was such a great game.

          • I could give a fuck less about what Angry Joe thinks of something tbh, I’ve never found his opinions interesting or insightful.

          • diamond

I feel that way about Seanbaby, his opinions mean less then nothing to me.

            I’ve always loved AJ

          • Terriosaurus Hex

Nope, not seeing what you’re describing really. But it does appear that perhaps something was taken to heart and now you’re using the very broad strokes you claim they are utilising to justify your distaste. It’s a very unconvincing criticism to push. There are better ones.

          • Uh, what?

          • Terriosaurus Hex

Whatever helps you sleep at night, dude 😉

          • MJC

Not seeing what you’re describing either. Mostly because you didn’t give any goddamn examples to back up your opinion. Agree or disagree with the Seanbaby quote, but at least he backed himself up with examples.

      • Polishfury5000

Ha, loved that old article. I’m happy people still remember Seanbaby’s work. Cracked hasn’t been the same for me since he (and Brockway for that matter) stopped doing weekly pieces.

Anytime I have a crummy day I go to my bookmarks and pull up his Sims 3 piece. Always brightens me up.

        • I got into MMA for a few years solely because of his writing. I miss seeing it regularly too, I have no idea what the hell he’s doing these days.

          • Polishfury5000

He’s doing game design. Check out Calculords, it’s a damn fine mobile game he made.

It’s a card battler that uses a creature deck and a number deck. You add, subtract, and/or multiply the numbers to pay the cost of your creatures.

          • Yeah I remember seeing the crowdfunding campaign for that but I brushed it off, not really into card games. Haven’t really heard anything since then, though.

          • Polishfury5000

The sequel was going through Kickstarter, original is on all mobile.

It’s more a turn based strategy game than straight up card game. It’s not freemium or anything like that either. Worth looking into if you ever want something for your phone.

        • diamond

I don’t miss him one bit, I always thought he was an overrated and shit writer.

          • Polishfury5000

            Hahaha, I like you.

I respect your opinion but you’re ill equiped to change mine.

          • Wolfie

That’s Diamond for you. If there’s one thing he’s good at, it isn’t giving a shit about being unpopular…

            …kind of. There’s caveats.

    • Chris

Not saying you’re wrong at all… but there is room in the world for both kinds of game and humour. I loved Saints Row 3 and 4 especially because it’s lack of subtlety. Maybe because they hit me at a time when all the games were so grim dark serious and I just wanted to have some stupid fun (which both games delivered in spades).

      • diamond

I think they went too far in that direction, I liked 1 and 2 better.

    • drownedsummer

The public have to pay to get in, which is nothing new for gaming expo events. The price is extortionate however.

  • Ashur Arbaces

10 minutes in and just red the description, no Yakuza zero talk this week?

  • Unjaded

I’m a big fan of most of your content Jim, but that cat was really unprofessional. Annoying as fuck. Laura should have sat this one out or made arrangements.

    • Terriosaurus Hex

If you’re coming to the podquisition looking for professionalism, you’re looking in the wrong place. It’s been part of the charm for a while now, wouldn’t have it any other way. A cat is hardly a dealbreaker unless there are more personal issues at bay.

      • Unjaded

Good for you. I found it very annoying. Not sure what your reference to personal issues is. I just don’t like cats incessantly interrupting something I enjoy.

        • Terriosaurus Hex

Nobody was really “interrupted” though. For all the stuff they’ve done previously, a cat is now the breaking point? Weird limitations.

          • Unjaded

That’s kinda presumptuous to make a judgement on my limitations based on me finding a cat irritating. But if you like that sort of thing, there are plenty of YouTube videos to satify your cat meowing needs.

          • Terriosaurus Hex

I like what is already here. You do not. So it doesn’t appear that I am somehow in the wrong place. Are you sure?

          • CaitSeith

Hold your horses! Stop gatekeeping the podcast just beacause they disliked content that was unplanned and unintentional.

    • Mewshuji

I loved the cat personally. We need more felines in podcasting.

    • Daniel Robert Campbell

Agreed. Although Laura always surprises me with how unprofessional she is and still manages to keep a place in the game journalism industry. Constantly reporting on rumor and then shouting a, “I told ya so!” When one in ten turns out to be right, The “Hollier than thou” attitude she has given people who have differing opinions than her, the snarky attitude she gives to just about everything other people like that she doesn’t, ECT. Love Jim and Gav enough to keep listening though.

      • Chris

Oh fuck off. the rumour rate is way higher than that. And of course she’s snarky cos pieces of shit like you tell her the ps4 slim on her fucking desk is 3d printed and not real. If you have to cop weeks of abuse from sad wankers such as yourself about things that exist and you’ve held and played only to be vindicated, I’m willing to bet you would be smug too (you know… the way you’re smug right now about any leak which is wrong and using as “evidence” the laura is bad and should quit)

        • Daniel Robert Campbell

I don’t think she should quit at all. I think she should just hold her self to a higher standard and be a little more genuine. People really accused her of having a 3D printed PS4? That seems…weird. Anyhoo, I’ve already spent more time talking to you than you deserve. Take care now.

          • diamond

She is plenty genuine and she does hold herself to a very high standard.

          • Daniel Robert Campbell

Maybe she is being genuine. I can’t speak with absolute Authority on this you since I’ve never met her personally. I’ve just met a lot of people who act like this and they tend to be putting it on as some kind of act to make themselves seem more appealing. It might not be that way with her at all. As far as holding herself to a higher standard I just don’t like it when people report on every rumor that they hear. I find it very unprofessional. When you report on rumors you are possibly putting somebody’s job at risk. Imagine you are making a game and it is in a very rough State because it is early in development. Some random tester on your game decides to leak what the game looks like, and then some random game journalist runs with it. Now this journalist is reporting that there is this game that your studio is working on and how it looks like absolute garbage. The public sees this and starts to lose faith in you as a developer. They don’t care that it is early in the project, they only care about what they saw perpetuated in the rumor leak. Now the publisher is losing faith in the studio as well since public opinion has soured and decides to either cancel the project or scale back on it. Now people have lost their jobs all because some journalists decided to run with a rumor instead of doing the respectable thing and run it by the developer first. I have actually seen this happen before. I have been the victim of this before. People’s careers have been ruined all because someone wanted to feel special and report on a rumor. I know some will say that they are just doing their job but it seems kind of petty to sacrifice somebody’s job for the sake of a few clicks.

          • diamond

She is not “putting on an act” she has Asperger’s Syndrome, and as someone who also has AS, I will not allow people like you to insult Laura K for no reason.

Also you seem to misunderstand what Laura does, she does not leak early builds of games, she usually just reports that a certain game exists(I.E. Rush of Blood) and most of her leaks are console related stuff, so no she’s not endangering anyone’s job, don’t be so fucking dramatic. Laura is not “Sacrificing” anyone’s job, you are talking out of your ass if you actually believe.

          • Daniel Robert Campbell

Neither you or her have Asperger syndrome. It is incredibly insulting to those who do have it to claim you have it whenever you are just antisocial. Having help some of these poor kids with actual Asperger’s Syndrome, it sickens me whenever people do this. Those poor kids have so much trouble even speaking to another human being let alone being able to mingle among readers or do a podcast. Unless you have an actual doctor’s diagnosis saying you have Aspergers, you do not have Aspergers. Only about 20,000 people in the entire country have it. It is not some kind of Boy Scout badge that you get for being antisocial. And again I do not have that big of a problem with Laura. But Im quickly finding out her “supporters” like yourself, well, I’m just going to assume she’s intelligent enough to not be asking for people like you to be fighting on her behalf. I happen to think that Laura is incredibly intelligent and a very talented individual. I just find a few idiosyncrasies about her rather obnoxious. That is my hang up not hers.

          • diamond

Yes we fucking do you brain-dead worthless piece of fucking dogshit, don’t you fucking dare tell us that we don’t have something that we KNOW for a fucking fact that we DO have.

You don’t personally know either of us and you are not fucking psychic, so you have no way of proving that were are not autistic, so kindly go fuck yourself up the ass with a porcupine and get the fuck off this page.

Jim has made it clear abundantly clear in the past that he will not hear a bad word said about Laura, and if you think he’s going to let you keep posting your garbage on here, you’re laughably mistaken.

You are a truly terrible human being.

Me and Laura are not “anti-social” just cause a dumbfuck like you says so, you are the one who is clearly anti-social what with you attacking Laura for no good reason at all.

How the fuck do you know that me and Laura do not have an actual diagnosis from a doctor for AS? You fucking don’t know because you’ve never met either one of us you cocksucker motherfucker.

Laura is not “obnoxious” at all, but you sure as fuck are, and I don’t believe for one fucking second that you actually care about kids with AS, you’re just using them as a prop to try and make yourself look tough, which is truly fucking pathetic.

It is FAR more then 20,000 people that have it, now I know you are a fucking liar, scientific studies have shown that between 50-70 MILLION people have it, where the fuck did you get your figures? Brietbart?

Get lost you ableist piece of shit.

Sounds like you’re the one looking for a badge here by trying to make yourself look like a badass for insulting Laura. Nobody is going to give you brownie points for harassing people you brain-dead piece of shit.

Laura and me are clearly plenty more intelligent then shitheads like you are, and Laura has actually thanked me for my support on Twitter, so that shows what you know fuckface.

You clearly do have a problem with Laura, otherwise you wouldn’t be whining like a pathetic fucking crybaby over nothing.

          • Daniel Robert Campbell

My statistics come from NEJM…so there’s that. How I KNOW you don’t have Aspergers is because you’re posting here, spewing venom left and right. People with Aspergers (not self diagnosed/fake) have trouble socializing in any form. Internet forums included. They wouldn’t put themselves into a vulnerable situation like you have.

Look, I can tell you just WANT to fight. I’m not going to indulge that. I don’t want to hurt Laura and I don’t want to hurt you, or anyone else. You’re clearly a very vulnerable and sensitive. I want you to know that you’re a person who deserves to love, and be loved. Take care of yourself, try not to let your fear consume you so much and know that you contain multitudes.

Laura, if by some random chance you do see this, I don’t want my comments to be construed as me attacking you. Each of us have things that we do/don’t like about each other. I like more about you than I dislike and I think you’re a beautiful person. While I wish you wouldn’t report on rumor as much, that’s something you have to decide to do or not. Either way, you’re great. Don’t let anyone, like Diamond, tell you otherwise. The way that person just spoke to me is no way for a decent human being to speak to another. If they can speak to me that way, I’m sure they can easily turn and speak that way to others as well. Regardless, there will always be people wanting to break you down. I hope I haven’t unintentionally done that in any way. Have a wonderful day.

          • Chris Schwartz-Brown

This is why you don’t engage in conversation with people like this.

I mean both Daniel and diamond by the way. Diamond for obvious reasons (he’s an annoying shit), Daniel because he’s clearly out to start a fight (comes into the comments section to start a fight, calls out Laura on her diagnosis, calls her a fake and unprofessional, than acts like he’s under attack by her defenders for being mean to him) and then keeps coming back when he claims to be done. I’d imagine this isn’t about “ethics” or “professionalism” so much as the obvious reason guys like this want to silence Laura while praising Jim.

          • Benj

“Neither you or her have Asperger’s syndrome.”

Sorry what? You have access to the medical records of podcasters and internet randos (no offence diamond), do you?

“Those poor kids have so much trouble even speaking to another human being let alone being able to mingle among readers or do a podcast.”

Oh, I think I understand a bit better now what’s happened here.

I too get annoyed by people saying “lol, I’m so OCD, I like having all my books straight on my desk” and “omg my boyfriend has Asperger’s because he sometimes doesn’t understand why I’m cross with him ” and I agree that amateur diagnosis like this is unhelpful and often disrespectful.

However, what you’ve done here isn’t call out an amateur diagnosis, you’ve made an amateur diagnosis of your own. One which implies some of the opposite false assumptions about mental health and developmental disorders. Namely, that a diagnosis entails someone is unable to function without care and they have little chance of a normal life, independence or success.

Autistm is a spectrum and the effects vary wildly between different people. Having Asperger’s syndrome (which is at the high-functioning end of the Autism spectrum by the way) can sometimes not be especially obvious to a casual acquaintance and seems miles away from the kind of severe Autism which prevents sufferes from ever learning to talk.

The definition and understanding of Autism has changed a lot over the past few decades and your 20,000 figure (if it does come from the NJEM) seems like it is massively out of date or possibly refers to only a small subset of ASD. The NHS in my country estimates about 1% of the population has some form of ASD (diagnosed or undiagnosed) which means about 700,000 people in just the UK.

Having a mental health or development disorder is crap and part of the reason why is that the difficulties are internal and nobody can directly see what you’re struggling with.

If you fail, people dismiss you as not trying hard enough and if you succeed then people dismiss that you had anything to struggle with in the first place. In the worst case scenario this means that you can’t get help because you “don’t need it”.

When you claim that someone can’t have an Asperger’s diagnosis because they are able to star on a podcast or make comments on the internet then you are contributing to the stigma of ASD. This kind of stigma prevents mothers from getting their children tested early out of a fear that an Autistic child can “never be normal” or that a diagnosis dooms them to a severely limited and unhappy life.

I’m fairly confident that this was unintentional but the take-home here is it’s almost always a bad idea to assume you know what other people are capable of or what they are dealing with, especially when you have only a few scant examples of what that person has chosen to post on the internet to draw from.

      • diamond

She is not “unprofessional” at all you stupid fucking piece of shit. She’s been right way more then she’s been wrong.

      • MJC

        Uh-huh.

I bet you were one of the dipshits who accused her of 3D printing a PS4 slim.

    • Otherhand

Yeah. I don’t know if it’s just me because I’m a bit… cat-focussed, but it really annoyed me throughout as well. Maybe other people would react to it the same.

Laura: The cat doesn’t know what time it is! If you have a podcast to do and this happens, feed the cat!

    • George

I am not an animal person but i did not mind the cat at all.

  • galactix100

Since it never came up in the episode I’m curious to hear what people think about the result of the NepentheZ case (for those that don’t know it was essentially the CSGO Lotto debacle but with FIFA). Personally I find it encouraging that there’s been actual action taken to tackle the often dodgy at best world of skins gambling. It also shows that there doesn’t necessarily need to be a host of new laws, all that’s needed is for the right people to give a shit.

  • Grim

    Gav-Trump is my president.

    • Otherhand

      Gump.

  • Rachel McVeigh

Gav’s Trump is on point. I love it.

  • SilentPony

Everyone keeps telling Laura to get her pussy under control, but I was just too emotionally enthralled with cock jokes and sex talk straight out of the gate.

  • prh99

All that ending needed was sounds like coughing or cursing for getting it in his eye for the money shot lol.

  • FERN.H.W.

I love cats, but wow that is the most persistent creature in the planet. I’m not even mad that’s impressive.

  • Appretaur

What is Easy D to me? The capacity to encounter and catch Dhelmise more often than 10% of the time at that fishing spot in Pokemon Sun/Moon.

    • Andrew Barloq

I definitely was not getting it 1/10 times in that spot… the only low encounter rate Pokemon in Moon that I seem to be able to beat the odds with is Oranguru. -_-

      • Appretaur

Well, it’s effectively 1/10 if you know to reenter and exit the doorway right behind you so that the special flourish above those rocks reappears each time; without that flourish, the encounter rate becomes 1/100. That’s what Serebii says about its appearance In-depth Details, anyway…

        • Andrew Barloq

Oh I was aware of that, but the odds were not in my favour on that one. Ended up just trading my excess Orangurus for a Dhelmise. 😛

          • Chris

I got dhelmise after 30 minutes of entering and exit. No problem!

TWO. FUCKING. HOURS! Trying to catch a fucking shellder. 10% encounter mys fucking ass! Bullshit shellfish mother fucker. I gave up, went into pokemon Y and just put it in my bank. Fucking hell.

I CAUGHT A BAGON (1% encounter rate) IN LESS FUCKING TIME THAN SHELLDER!

  • BrentD15

Anyone else hear a kitty meowing in the background? :3

    • Appretaur

Honestly, I didn’t until Laura mentioned it, since I don’t have the volume blaring loud. Now, when I look for it, sure, it makes me wonder why she calls herself Laura K Buzz instead of Laura K Meow…

    Cat: LAURA. LAURA. LAURAAAAAAA.
    Laura: WHAT.
    Cat: …Danger Zooone.

  • SilentPony

I said last week what a treat it was not to have anyone talking about nut sack size. And ya I just had to push it, Laura

  • Daniel Robert Campbell

That cat is in need of some loving. Hard to pay attention to the people with it constantly meowing. That with the cell phone notifications…common guys. You’re supposed to be professionals.

    • Chris

Professional musician, professional video game reviewer/leaker, professional video game reviewer/pundit/boglin watcher. No professional podcaster to be seen!
PS. I’m just having a laugh mostly cos the cat didn’t bother me. I’m sorry it bothered you though!

  • Chris

Hey JIM! I saw your tweets about the parapod. Would this week be a good jumping in point?

Hey GAV! I got back from my honey moon two weeks ago (I was in Japan). I bought two Band-Maid albums while there and I love them (especially the new album, Just Bring It). Sooo.. mostly just thanking you for the recommendation 50ish episodes again.

Hey LAURA! …I didn’t have anything to bring to your attention so… Hi! (I bet in 3 days I’ll actually remember something of relevance)

    • Polishfury5000

In terms of the Parapod, you’d probably want to start at the first episode of a particular series. Series 3 is all about conspiracies, and episode 4 is the new one.

Series 1 is ghosts, and series 2 is mysteries. They’re all comedy gold, but (in my opinion) series 2 is where they hit their stride.

  • Michael Campbell

I felt the final bit in that porn was the best, when they parody the game over radio call.

  • Wolfie

To all the people moaning about the cat:

More! More! Your agony brings me joy! /I kid, but then again, I live with four cats, so yeah.

    • Otherhand

That’s why it hurts! That sound is, for me, the equivalent of a parent hearing a baby crying. I’m primed to react to it over all other noises.

  • George

I thought the jokes in this episode were top notch!

Also, the political jokes were funny! Although, I will say that I’m glad that I like in a Constitutional Monarchy.

Thanks again for putting on a great show.

    EDIT

To all the people compelling: There was nothing wrong with the cat. Christ! It’s a podcast about video games and sexy stuff with 3 friends not a bloody CBC documentary.

  • superforsooth

Gav’s impression was… disturbingly spot on.

    • Chris

I find it too painful to listen to anything Trump says so both Colbert, and Gav’s trump impression don’t sound accurate to me (as in sound wise… words wise sounds about right). Does he really sound like Gav?

    • Otherhand

It’s a good impression of the SNL Trump, but Alec Baldwin’s impression isn’t that much like Trump. Baldwin makes him sound too much like a man and not enough like a dainty 8-year-old boy.

  • boylandtheliberator

Best parts of the show Laura’s cat meowing its arse off, Gavin doing donald trump and having cyber sucking steve bannon’s penis. Jim talking about the phantom peen. Between this and snl having steve bannon being death

    • ENAY

Yes clearly this episode has been sponsored by cat meowing.

  • Jack Trevor

Team Ninja being culturally sensitive is both nice and hilarious. This from the company that changed up an entire character just for the sake of sexing her up. A fact they openly admitted in the art book of Ninja Gaiden 2.

Still nice to see 2017 is off to a great start. In January no less.

    • Chris

      which character? out of curiousity

      • Andrew Barloq

I’m going to guess Sonia, who was brought over from the NES Ninja Gaiden games and turned into a busty sex doll in NG2.

      • Jack Trevor

It is Sonia. As Andrew said.

  • Jack Trevor

I echo Laura’s thoughts on Fire Emblem. The biggest thing I’ll add is it is the most sensible game under the Nintendo brand. As in, everything in this game actually makes sense.

  • Sperium3000

I love how opinions on graphics these days are so divergent as to be ridiculous. Angry Joe says Yakuza 0 is super ugly, other guy I watch says it looks fucking great, Maxmillian_Dood says Nioh looks super pretty, Gavin says it looks shitty.

    • Anton

I think it’s a large part of it is caused by how fast graphics tech advances. I’m a pc gfx supremacist, yet I frequently play some very old games with some very archaic graphics; to me, nothing modern really looks “ugly”, because I still remember the original Doom (still looks great!), and PS1/N64-era 3d graphics (legitimately fugly stuff). At the same time, I would imagine that people who got into gaming more recently are much more likely to look down their nose at graphics that don’t hold up to whatever the latest standard is.

I’m sure art and personal taste factor in pretty heavily, too.

      • Sperium3000

Damn kids and their “For Quays”. In my time, we had 8-bit standard definition graphics and we LOVED IT.

        • Wolfie

          Now with a 16-color palette!

        • Chris

in their defense, the 8 bit 16 bit era meant you had to kind of keep things in line art direction wise and could abstract a lot of things. Now if bananas are painted into a box (flat texture) it sticks out like a sore thumb next to hyper realistic humans.

      • diamond

I think there are some sixth-gen games that still look good, but I think any game from the PS1 era that features human characters has aged horribly.

    • diamond

Joe didn’t say it was ugly and I don’t recall Gavin ever saying it looked bad.

      • Sperium3000

Joe said the environments of Yakuza 0 were PS2 level, it’s in his review, rewatch it and you shall see. And Gaving said the environments in Nioh looked shitty in this very podcast. Relisten to it.

        • diamond

He didn’t say the whole game looked bad though, he said that the cutscenes looked really good, it was just some of the environments he was less then impressed with, and I can see where’s coming from, some of the environments looked like they were straight out of Yakuza 1 or 2.

          • Sperium3000

            Jesus Christ… Sure, ok.

          • diamond

What? I’m only repeating what Angry Joe said in his review, you made it sound like he said the entire game looked like a PS2 game, when that’s not at all what he said, I was just correcting you, not sure what’s so wrong with that.

          • Sperium3000

            Ok.

          • Chris Schwartz-Brown

Remember, if Diamond has an opinion, no one is allowed to have any contradictory ones. Especially if he has a youtuber to back him up.

          • Chris

When he doesn’t have a youtuber to back him up, he also has sales figures/money raked in, or failing that, his friends agree with him so that makes him right.

  • Jak

More videogarmesjurnaljism, polititics, SJW-LGBT-Stuff and dogs please.

But the cat was a no-go, sorry.

    • diamond

SJW is a stupid term no one should ever use unironically.

      • Jak

Okay, so did you just used “it” ironically there?

        • diamond

          yeah

          • Jak

            Good, me neither.

    • Beverly Shitposter

I for one am sick of politics. It’s all anyone talks about anymore.

  • Brandon

Jim I have to say, if you didn’t care for the other Nintendo mobile efforts, I’d still definitely give this one a shot. It’s EASILY the best of the three, easily

  • Forrest Kayssen

Fire Emblem Heroes looked like a really decent game, and the gatcha mechanics weren’t too obtrusive.

I just wish I knew literally anything about Fire Emblem. I uninstalled after a day. definitely not the game for me.

    • Jpkurihara

If you couldn’t get into Heroes, you’ll probably never get into any of the games.
Imagine Heroes with Hit chances, random criticals, weapon swapping, buying and durability, perma death and battles 5 times bigger than the ones in game.

      • Forrest Kayssen

My issue with the game was that it was fanservice with no real story. As in, not targeted at somebody who has never played any of the games before.

Although, one of the major reasons I’ve never picked up the games is because I’ve assumed they’re not for me. Not from a mechanic or gameplay point of view (I liked FFTactics and Tactics Ogre, and hate losing people in battles anyway), but because RPGs that are primarily about wars between nations often bore the hell out of me. Either the opposing nation is obviously evil and the main character eventually defeats them, or both sides are self serving and the main character creates their own army of idealists. Of course, I’m just assuming, here.

        • Jpkurihara

Nah, you’re right. Morality in FE is blindingly black and white most of the time. Some villains raise good points but the lot I’ve seen are dicks.

  • Mike C

Love Laura but instantly fast forward the Fire Emblem Heroes talk. Great episode just don’t care about Mobile Slot machine games.
