Funnily enough, Ys Seven, which released just a couple of day ago, has that bug where you can’t play online. And it’s a bug and not DRM, so it’s at least possible!

The reason why Nintendo is making chat so convoluted is to protect the children who play the game from hearing the word benis online.

My best presumption is Nintendo’s cumbersome online voice chat method is (inelegantly) about protecting the tiny humans from the internet cesspool. They curated the Miiverse, I’m sure they are curating the in-game equivalent, but live chat is an open risk – UNLESS doing so is such a chore it was nigh impossible to happen on accident. Then they have a case like that extension brick they made for the 3ds when everyone whined about a second control stick. Yes, it was provided (b/c at the time the furvor was enough to potentially hurt sales), but it was designed to be… Read more »

I haven’t listened to the podcast yet, but Jim “mother fucking” Sterling have you seen the He-man money supermarket adverts yet? Has anyone told you about these yet???? Please let me be the first!

Jim, I appreciate your adding the Season Pass prices into the MSRP, because just last night I was looking through the Playstation Store and was getting annoyed at how so many games had “Deluxe” and “Gold” and “Complete” editions that contained the full content of the game for a much higher price :/

And I’m in Canada, most of them are $100-$140!

You’re missing the upside of the “if it’s free it’s above reproach” argument:

No one can be criticial of anything free, including pirated nintendo stuff.

Since Jim made his videos about Nintendo for free, shouldn’t these people understand that they aren’t allowed to criticize his opinions? That’s how Youtube and the internet in general work I’m pretty sure.

Honestly I think Sega knew exactly what they were doing in both regards to Sonic Mania. Bear in mind this is the same company that took down hundreds of Shining Force videos on Youtube just so that its trailer for an upcoming SF game would have better search enging optimization. This Sonic Mania thing is *exactly* the sort of thing they’d do on purpose. RE: Denuvo, given that they held off the PC release specifically to add Denuvo, and were deleting threads concerning it (meaning they didn’t want customers to find out about it until after they’d bought it) they… Read more »

One was Yakuza Kiwami 2. Its Yakuza 2 on a new engine.

Another is Yakuza Online. Its free to play Yakuza on PS4/PC. No other details

The third is the Fist of the North Star Yakuza game. Its Yakuza only Fist of the North Star.

I think Atlus working on the Xeno series would be interesting

From Software working on Zelda may be an obvious connection.

I also think that if Platinum were to work on a Kirby game of some kind that that would create some unique results.

When are they introducing Gavin? When are they introducing Gavin??? How long are they going to interrupt Gavin…

Denuvo requires online activation after initial game download, it is tightly linked to your PC and moving activated game to another pc and login in into steam will not work.

From what I understand developer has a control on how many activation per day are allowed, how aggressively integrity of game files is verified and how often to “call the mother ship”, moreover apparently Denuvo is closely integrated with the game code. This could easily been a bug.

…BUT this is Sega, soooo who knows…

I’ve still got the vision of Jim doing angry naked star jumps burned into my brain. I haven’t slept for weeks. I’m burning through my life savings on therapy.

Okay I think Laura has taken her Mario + Rabbids hoax too far. Somehow 3D printing tens of thousands of discs and packages for them and sneaking them into stores and online retailers warehouses. You just can’t trust anything she reports at this point.

FFXV is putting itself about a bit crossover wise.

You can get the car from it in Forza Horizon 3.

AC is going in a weird direction. Mechanically (y’know, as a game), I agree with Jim, it’s getting better with every iteration. With Origins, the game systems are looking better than ever now that Ubi decided to do a slight rip of Souls combat.

Storywise, however…. it peaked with the Ezio story and has gone downhill FAST after he left. At this point, the overarching plot is so bad and messy that it’s officially beyond rescuing.

I think Origins looks like crap, no urge to play it whatsoever.

I think they’ve gotten worse mechanically. The combat hasn’t really changed in so much as it’s wait for an attack and hit the counter button except in Syndicate you have to spend 20 minutes mashing the attack button because the enemies are damage sponges. I didn’t like the grappling hook either because it made climbing buildings, a central mechanic of the series, completely redundant. Also I find the grappling hook less fun than scaling a building by hand.

You know, I used to think that too, but I replayed the Ezio trilogy recently, and it’s way worse than we remember. Stealth, free-running, and combat are a giant chore to control and execute. Story-wise, it’s still delightful, and the soundtrack is wonderful, but the gameplay was just objectively bad. Newer ACs are oversimplified, but at least they are not as stressful to control. As far as Origins combat goes, I do have hopes that the changes they’ve introduced will improve the experience – the souls-esque importance of dodging and positioning, the rpg elements, etc. Still, though, I’m not buying… Read more »

I replayed 2 not long ago and other than making free running less of a pain to control I think the series from 3 onward (except Black Flag) have been getting worse with each iteration.

I’ve been convinced that they had the switch headset fiasco as complicated as it is to avoid a few things: 1) software support for muting player and such (shave time off that development budget) 2) and more importantly, make the upfront difficulties of voice chat so hard so they don’t have to worry about parents getting angry about someone describing squid sex to their eight year old who wants to color the floor with blue ink. Presumably, if everyone is on the same LAN network, they are all permitted to be in the house and the parents can monitor them.… Read more »

That the voice chat is only available through the app thankfully means I don’t have to spend time muting people or listening to them in the first place.

Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle isn’t nearly as weird a title as Freshly Picked Tingle’s Rosy Rupeeland (Maybe aside from the mathematical symbol in the title) Definitely agree with Laura about it being annoying not being able to rotate the camera freely at all times, though for some reason ‘rotate in 45 degree increments’ (which is the battle camera) is almost a default for this style of turn based strategy game. The issue here, for me, is that clearly they built a camera that can be rotated freely, so why can’t we use that in battle? The bigger camera issue,… Read more »
