Podquisition Episode 2: Drink Call of Duty Responsibly

On this week’s episode, there’s corruption on the high seas as soft drinks and snack products worm their way into our filthy, clogged hearts. We have a go at Ubisoft some more, make fun of Haunted House, and there’s yet more Dragon Age love sneaking in.

We also have a right ol’ moan about microtransactions and branded pizzas. And pisspots.

You can listen/download directly here.

I’m a long time listener and fan of podtoid. Listened to some dismal jesters but lost interest in it as the episodes progressed. This is a nice change of pace from podtoid/dismal jesters. I really enjoyed the last two episodes. It’s a good mix between videogame talk and funny banter, and I like the new cast members a whole lot.

I called my Dragon Age character Swamp-Ass. It really helped with immersion.

You know, I never ever experienced this thing called ASMR and I never understood it either. I first heard of it years ago in a Nerdist Podcast with some female guest and I was kinda baffled and I read up on it and then I watched some of the videos she recommended and it gave me nothing but fucking irritation. So I was just playing my annual StarTopia dosis listening to the two Podquisitions and now I get it. I get it because of Gavin! Not because of what he’s saying or his voice but because of his glorious irish… Read more »

In fairness to 2014 as a year…. there have also been some really good games released. Banished is a fun little builder. Sir, You Are Being Hunted is some awesomely tense stealth fun. Tropico 5 is a step down for the series in some ways, but still a pretty nice game. I think the main disapointment for the year is the triple-A releases. I’m having to guess here, since I don’t own any consoles but from the way people talk it looks like the big name series are just starting to feel…. a little old and tired. Like maybe they… Read more »

I was half-expecting one of you to perpetuate the Crew running gag by asking if the in-game radio had any Mötley Crüe.

No, Citadel was a far more exploitative DLC than From the Ashes. True From the Ashes was first day DLC which is bad enough, but Citadel was designed to split the fan base and exploit their fan fic fantasies.

In The Walking Dead S1 there’s a moment where a companion wants to kill someone and asks for your help. This leads to the same conclusion regardless of your choice, but that’s not the same as ‘the choices don’t matter’ – the common complaint of the games which seem to discount the incredibly impressionable little girl (who we actually like) watching everything you do. How you choose to react will shape her for the rest of her life. Well, that’s the theory anyway. I haven’t played season 2 yet, and don’t see how they could adequately reflect S1 now that… Read more »

It’s weird how you people talk about podtoid with such disgust and don’t want to mention it by name. I mean, I get that it was shameful (in a good way) but the way people act about it makes me feel like they’re embarrassed by their childhood of comedy or whatever. As if no one enjoyed it. Which is sad, because I did at least and it would cast those memories in a negative light if the hosts and fans involved are resentful of it. I mean, I get not wanting to continue it in to shows that have nothing… Read more »

Ok, the podcast is quite fun but I do have a few issues with it…Being too short and how that seems to make it rather directionless or perhaps theme-less. Having just an hour is quite a limited as far as setting up any topics or sections(news, experiences off topic whatever) and it does not give time to wander off-topic or go on tangents ..Personal observations and opinions of course, but it does seem that the podcast could benefit from Jim,as the instigator, having more direction and control over the thing..and keep the ideas and topics rained in. Still only the… Read more »

By the way, I vote on letting Podquisition being its own thing, rather than dragging out the rotting corpse of an old joke from another podcast. Among other reasons, I *really* like how balanced between the hosts this podcast has been, and I would prefer that Jim not turn it into his personal comedy routine while his co-hosts are reduced to being straight-men, something that (and I say this with love) constantly happened in Podtoid, and still sometimes happens with Fistshark.

I think the echo was coming before the actual voice there. Really weird.

Also, if Gav ever ends up being to busy to join in the podcast (which would be super bummer), you should consider Kathleen DeVere from LoadingReadyRun. I think she would fit right in with Jim and Laura.

Do you ever wonder WHY they have microtransactions? People use them. You don’t have to. The game isn’t balanced around microtransactions. What is the big deal if somebody wants to pay extra to finish stuff faster?

They aren’t even intrusive at all. The misrepresentation (which makes sense, as two of the three in this podcast hate Ubisoft) of this is kind of sickening.

I sincerely hope they never, ever, come up with an AC game set in Germany…thank God the chances of it happening are so slim (and for Jim Sterling, naturally). Everyone whose country’s history is butchered in an AC title has my sympathy and moral support. Also, amen to “The animus can fuck off.” Seriously, AC2 ended with Templars storming the Assassin hideout…the franchise was all set for a good trilogy with an interesting and consistent story arc, with the last title throwing Desmond out into the real world (aka what they twisted into being Watch_Dogs). I can literally picture the… Read more »

Don’t know if its possible to fix and you’ve probably already realized it but your guest’s audio echoed. Pretty good so far, I love how its only an hour instead of four because you realize people have lives. Keep up the good work.
