could the admin tell me why my comments have been “awaiting moderation” for a day?
is it because I posted a link? (it was the original “CanardPC” article about quantic dream on which the episode is based,, they did an english translation, and it’s free for a week. it’s pretty relevant.) oh well.

Toxic workplace, allegations of racism, devs burnt-out – when did I last hear that? Oh yeah, Liz Finnegan’s article on the Escapist about Star Citizen. The article got taken down because CiG threatened the Escapist with one of the biggest law firms in America. Hilariously, CiG (or one of their 17 shell companies) are being sued now by one of the biggest law firms in America (Skadden) and they can’t afford the big boys anymore (where did 175 million go?). I guess the greatest trick Chris Roberts ever pulled was not pissing in Jim’s cornflakes like the usual suspects (Murray,… Read more »

I’m going to end up being vilified for this but after listening to both sides of this story as they were reported I kinda get the feeling the IT department needs to toughen up and learn to take and give back a joke. I work in a department where I’m in charge of about 6 or so young men and the amount of off color comments, comments that are clearly in the realm of sexual harassment and other such things are through the roof. Racist humor is often used by many popular NON-RACIST comedians (Lisa Lampanelli and Sarah Silverman come… Read more »

So…i enjoy quantic dreams games and im actually excited about too human Detroit. A guilty pleasure. If its as good as any of the last games I’ll be a customer and I don’t care that it’s poor quality film writing, as thats amazing quality for game film which is very different. The latest star wars campaign and destiny and shadow of war were all absolute crap so I’m not too fussed with Cage though I had hoped he would have improved by now or a rival company would have super seeded his ideas. Beyond this I think the man hurts… Read more »

I’ve seen people genuinely excited for Detroit, and my response is, “Really?” Look, I get that people have different tastes, and I usually try to see the value in games even if I don’t personally like them. But I don’t get the love for Heavy Rain or Beyond. Gameplay, what little there is, is terrible. Characters are flat with sometimes confusing motives. Story, not nearly as clever as it wants to be. And just my own bias, I’ve never liked “Ridiculously Human Robots.” Why in the hell would we give appliances human like emotions? If they’re just to serve, what’s… Read more »

For everyone wondering:

The results of the Horrid Spider competition have been pushed back to next week. Jim received WAY more results than he expected, so he needed extra time to go through them. Sorry for the delay everyone, but next week will have the reveal!

But what does emotion truly memes? Is it but a memes to an end? Sorry, I should stop dememing the subject matter at hand, but my Cage allergies are firing off and there are no antihistamemes left to alleviate the distress. Maybe a Trip-Hop album could help, like Massive Attack’s Mezzameme.

So it turns out that David Cage’s writing isn’t the only convoluted cluster-fuck going on at Quantic Dream.

That David Cage spoof episode is one of my favorite Jimquisition episodes of all time. I really despised HR and B:TS and I don’t understand how they got the reviews and following that they did. HR’s mystery was at least interesting, but every segment with the girl was just another excuse to get her mostly naked or sexually assaulted. B:TS had the same issue. The protagonist went through every trope in the book. Stolen at birth? Check. Grew up with an abusive father? Check. Outcast at school? Check. Sexually assaulted in a bar? Check. The list goes on and on.… Read more »

As someone who was heavily bullied due to weight, homophpobia and ableism, the bit about not being able to say how you really feel and just have to take the crap when you’re surronded by your peers.

Also Lilith, I didn’t know about the Ellen Page thing, *cringes*, you never do something like that without someone’s permission.

I think it’s a bad idea for any company that’s made up of more than a circle of close friends to not have a safe and anonymous way to report complaints to as impartial a party as is viable. Otherwise there’s no good way of dealing with differences in what offends employees. That’s not to say people should be able to use the excuse of no one complaining. I just think the company allowing such content to be posted in the office without checking if everyone present is okay with it reflects even worse on the company than the person… Read more »

I was expecting Jim to have thoughts on the Open Beta of “Metal Gear SurWhy”? Maybe a Jimpressions from X1 capture.

I have no thoughts on David Cage, or Quantic Dream even. Their games are mediocre, and far outshone by indie efforts with more realistic scope, plots, and budgeting. Until allegations become more than that, it’s just nice to have the counter-opinion in the shape of a first-hand encounter with “not absolutely shit to work here” like a lot of this industry.

Given the way he writes his games, it wouldn’t shock me in the slightest if the allegations of Quantic Dream being a horrible place to work were true.
