A shame that a lot of people didn’t cover the PC gaming show because of last years one not being so good . The only other future game that is interesting me outside the PC gaming show event is Injustice 2.

Really don’t like that idea of Sony forcing VR onto consumers to make it successful that you two are suggesting.

I don’t want VR to play games, it gives me eye strain, headaches and I like to lie down on the couch and play games the way I want to. I don’t mind others enjoying it or it being an optional feature, just not a forced necessary mode.

I don’t want games to become Steel Battalion: Heavy Armor or force to me to use a piece of expensive hardware just so I can enjoy the next Resident Evil or Batman game.

I see your point of view, I have a vision impairment and the various other health issues I have means that I don’t want to even attempt using VR. I guess the only good thing that I can say is that when the modern gaming industry isn’t meeting your expectation there is still older games especially on the PC that you can play instead.

Nor do I. I’m not particularly interested in VR at all, frankly. That said, the only way it will ever be a long-term success is by achieving mainstream penetration. That doesn’t mean all top-end games will be made for VR, but it’s going to have to have sustained support by major players for a couple of years to have a shot.

When the only things that really interest you are the next South Park game and Persona 5 (and maybe Battlefield 1) you know something is really wrong.. I personally felt this was a pretty weak E3, overall. I enjoyed listening to the individual Jimpressions more than I did watching the press conferences. Very few surprises, everything felt very “safe”, too few games coming out this year – hell, most of Sony’s stuff was just listed as “in development” in the after-stream credits. Even Nintendo’s Treehouse was pretty lackluster – really spending the majority of their time talking up the new Pokemon and the Zelda game that may (or may not) show up sometime next year. E3 came and went and we still have no earthly fucking clue… Read more »

But they are pulling an Activision with XV, locking a full(ish) 2D brawler game tied directly to the main release behind national retailer pre-orders. Star Ocean segment was good but could have been better. Over an hour devoted to racing games. They also tossed Deep Silver a bone and gave them a full section of the stream for Agents. I got an overall “meh” feeling from E3. I watched the trailer for ME: Andromeda, the highlights from Xbox, and the entire Sony presentation. ME: Andromeda made me a little giddy, but my hype is long gone. Xbox had some cool highlights; the custom controllers (which you should check out just to screw around with the options), news on Project Scorpio (despite the recent reveal that it will only bump up resolution pretty much), and some of the games like Forza Horizon 3. Sony just made me feel a range of “meh” to “wtf?” Kojima’s trailer just looked ridiculous, but… Read more »

Thanks for this Jim, really enjoyed watching your YouTube videos on this. I was disappointed that EA didn’t focus more on Mass Effect, EA really needs to diversify the types of games they make and put more attention on their RPGs, it can’t all be sports. Erich Fromm Hell

They’re being far too coy about that game. Seeing yet another improbably relaxed and happy dev sitting at his keyboard does not make me any more interested in what’s coming. Yeah I was hoping for a gameplay trailer, but it does seem like they are trying to keep as much as possible under wraps this time. Aside from Archer Aisha’s primarily a stand-up comedian. She isn’t even a VA as such in one of their games unless I’m missing something. She appears in an optional hacking sequence in Watch Dogs as herself, which is really only an easter egg for an Archer fan.

you’re taking the piss right? It’s very clear that I meant diversify the types of games that they make, as need not just making games that are sports or war. So more RPGs, Action Adventures etc. How is asking for more types of games ‘SJW’?

Though EA devs are clearly taking inspiration from each other, the Journey Mode of FIFA seems like a BioWare RPG in a football game.

Joy? No. I just remember E3 last gen before the Kinect/Move era. The E3’s of 2008-2010 set a really high bar. Three years into this gen, we should be seeing that same bar reached. We should be seeing new IPs coming to fruition that are about to come out, not still in development with the possibility of delays. We should be seeing established franchises coming strong with their sequels. Instead we got a lot of “this’ll be coming sometime”, a lot of vague stuff like the ME: Andromeda ‘trailer’, and, as Jim put it, “Gears of More”. It was bland… Read more »
