The Jimquisition: Prey‘s Demo & Arkane’s Cock Cigarette

Demos aren’t exactly fashionable, and Prey not having one on PC is technically a non-issue.

Or it would have been, had Arkane’s reasoning not been so thoroughly and astoundingly wrong. At least when you think about it more than Arkane has.

Elite gaming comments?…. genuinely terrifying Jim.

Please don’t do that again.

Otherwise excellent point well made about demos.

But do you actually asked approach them about that comment?

I hope so as you make a good comment but you need to give them a chance to defend or explain or clarify it atleast as that only makes your argument stronger.

And no more screaming.. .and speakers (or glassware) can’t take it!

Oh god, this has to be my favorite ending segment so far, it tops even Fuck Konami News for me. Hahahaha.

Seriously. I hope he does more of these whenever there’s some stupid “controversy” over filthy casuals.

No I found it just too much and I feel it undid the good work he had just done and your mind forgets the important prey demo message and leaves with shrieking. Maybe a segment for a different place. Dangerous to mix comedy with hard nose journalism I’d you want to be heard.

I’m sorry are you new here? You’re saying this of a guy who made a cultist who fucks Pogs and golem made out of Corn Flakes. A 17th century hardcore gamer really isn’t that bad in comparison.

… and something else to add. The steam refund policy itself strongly discourages the (ab)use of the system, seeing the games you “borrow” as “demos”, or even free games: “Abuse Refunds are designed to remove the risk from purchasing titles on Steam—not as a way to get free games. If it appears to us that you are abusing refunds, we may stop offering them to you. We do not consider it abuse to request a refund on a title that was purchased just before a sale and then immediately rebuying that title for the sale price.” —- So following the… Read more »

… you don’t buy games on steam, you only borrow them there. DRM ridden games cannot be bought.

If you want to buy games, get them on GOG.

Honestly first thing to come to my mind on why is that silly Denuvo.

It costs money to implement and relies on not being able to be tampered. To release a PC demo would require either giving it it’s own Denuvo implementation (Expensive) or risk having it without which could lead to the Executable being disected to break denuvo on the main game.

Could be just rambling tough. as some pointed out to me yesterday apparently Prey got cracked.

That was my first thought as well. I already avoid Denuvo because of all the grief it has caused me.
I know that devs and publishers are always ashamed of using Denuvo on their games then blurt some nonsensical drivel when asked about it.

So if this becomes common what is to stop developers from having the first 2 hours of a game be amazing and have the rest be an unpolished pile of rancid shit?

I FEEL AS THOUGH THAT DUKE AMIEL DU HARDCORE IS THE PERFECT REPRESENTATION OF THE PERFECT HUMAN, HE HAS THE BEST PHYSIQUE AND SHARE ALL THE SAME OPINIONS.

It drives me up the wall that obnoxious prats have managed to change the meaning of Hardcore from ‘Gaming is their main passion’ to “Super insecure and need a way to prove they’re ‘better’ than someone else to feel better about it”. The modern incarnation is the ‘Do you even lift, bro?’ of gaming…

The Duke is funny as hell though, I’m hoping we get more of these and less Life Hackz…the latter falls flat more often than it doesn’t.

As someone in the YouTube comments mentioned, I think the Duke needs a fake “beauty mark” (aka fake mole) to perfect the French aristocratic look.

I loved the reading of comments. That’s the voice I hear when I read stupid gamer comments, or any comment on the daily mail website (it worth a laugh now and then to look at).

So then… Hastage jimfreedomporn?

Edit: Also. It wasn’t the wig. It wasn’t the makeup. It wasn’t the costume. What caught me off-guard was the fact that he wasn’t wearing eye wear. That was the weird part for me, not seeing him in some kind of glasses.

Chris

I do think the costume would be complete with a monocle.

You can’t monocle on a french rennaissance aristo – only germans and english aristos get to monocle.

Also he’d drop the bloody thing and smash it almost immediately.

What about those opera glasses?

Edit: They should be made of hard-ass plastic though, so then he can just hurl them onto the ground in frustration!

I was really hoping that on this, or on Podquisition, that you would comment on the Dan Stapleton score. He gave the game a 4 originally because of a bug that wouldn’t let him complete it, and people freaked out. I’d love to hear what you think of that.

I’ve been thinking a lot recently about the business model of Hatsune Miku Project Diva Future Tone on PS4. It does and doesn’t have a demo, in the sense that the “base game” is free but only includes two songs (so it’s effectively a demo, even if it technically isn’t), and the game proper is sold as DLC. It kind of reminds me of the 90s shareware wave (although shareware tended to be more generous with how much content it gave away for free, which might be why nobody uses that model any more). And I have to say I… Read more »

I love that people in this thread are basically trying to find a word for “shareware”.

If I was of a terroristic bent, I’d barge into an EA or Ubisoft boardmeetings and give everyone a heart attack by suggesting that upto a third of a game be released entirely for free to build interest for it.

RipTide

This is basically what Mario Run did isn’t it? So long as the game is up front about only being free for a short bit before you have to buy the whole thing this seems like a good system, but if like Nintendo the developers just spring it on you with no warning and, I could be misremembering it here but, no way to buy the full game from the start if you want to. Then this system can be, to some, at best annoying and at worst deceitful.

Allan Weallans

That’s a good point. As always, I don’t think deceiving customers is a good idea. On the other hand, with the Miku game, I didn’t even know it had a when-is-a-demo-not-a-demo before I was already considering buying it, which sort of defeats the point of a demo from a publisher’s perspective, I’d imagine.

Fatal Frame: Lady of Black Water did the exact same thing. The free download included the first two chapters, and the rest was unlocked via purchase. and while I don’t know about all cases, I feel this particular instance provided more than enough to give players a good idea about whether or not they’ll like it. About the only thing it doesn’t give a good preview for is the story.

In any case, it’s certainly better than nothing because now I know I *really* don’t like Fatal Frame.
