The Jimquisition: The Slaughtering Grounds – A Steam Meltdown Saga

This is a new version of an episode that never made it to YouTube, and is ostensibly two videos cut into one – the first half is the original, where I detail the grisly meltdown of developer ImminentUprising as it responded to a “quick look” gameplay video. The second half details what happened after that, when the “studio” hit my YouTube channel with a copyright strike and continued to showcase its own lack of self-awareness. It’s a tale of the ages, and a prime lesson in how not to engage with the world. Fun!

This game is currently on Desura for 3,99€, and I like how the only comment says “I feel this is mandatory” and links to this video on YouTube.

And the rating is the lowest possible with 1/10.

Oh. My God. the most nauseatingly horrible thing I saw in that game was the count down timer… as a game dev it is the worst thing I have ever seen. I mean how hard is it to make a count down timer?? ffs it has 61 seconds in a minute!! This is literally programming 101 stuff. it clearly shows what a complete and utter lack of polish, attention to detail, testing, and plain CARE went in to making this game.. If he’d used all the time he spent throwing a tantrum over the criticism, actually improving the game instead,… Read more »

I had some fun with content ID this week. Uploaded a video of Runner 2 and got a content ID claim from a company called Gretech. They manage a Korean esports channel called GOM eXp. They claimed the video as theres. So i left a message on their discussion page on YT asking for the claim to be removed and reminded them that using video to “protect your product” isn’t the right way to go about it on YT as it’ll mark videos made by any let’s player. I then made a video of me playing Runner 2 whilst discussing… Read more »

Is it really necessary to laugh at them? Mock them? Insult them by rubbing in the term absolute? Do you really need to publicly bully and shame these people? Why are you continuing to goad and pour salt on the wounds rather than simply being the better man? You actions suit the Jimquisition character fine…but this isn’t the Jimquisition character. This is Jim Sterling, the human being. Frankly, your actions have been childish and flat out embarrassing to watch. It doesn’t matter if they are being worse than you. That doesn’t give you a free pass to essentially bully them.… Read more »

I definitely enjoyed that double length Jim Sterling. The original Sterling has always felt just a wee bit short.

Oh, come on Jim at least leave open the possibility of making a game. Or, hiring someone to make a game that could be sold at cost or be in a Humble Bundle.

As someone already said before, I also think enough is enough with this “game”, you have nothing else to prove since everything has already been scrutinized, you making yet another video about this won’t add anything but create more hate from that developer to you, and I mean real hate, you’re in US now Jim, everyone and their pets has a gun, you’re putting yourself at an unnecessary risk, more importantly, probably putting at risk people you care about. I’m just some guy from the very distant Portugal and I appreciate your braveness by not shying away from some heated… Read more »

Well, I have watched this whole video and I believe it is an “absolute” masterpiece.

Loved, LOVED this episode. I don’t normally enjoy seeing small devs being shat on constantly but these devs have gone above and beyond anything to censor criticism, insult gamers’ intelligence (Albeit in a truly hilarious and entertaining fashion), and finally sell a horrible unacceptable product.

Also, now that I’ve seen such a extended / extra version of Jimquis with proper follow-ups, I hope to see more of it from the now independent Jim fucking sterlingson.

Jim, you already made a better game: Peaches.

Seriously, 100x better than every Early Access and David Cage game combined. A cinematic masterpiece.

If “I’m Jim Fucking Sterling, son!” is not made into a T-Shirt by next year, I will be sorely disappointed. Talk about funding your show for months to come!

Jim, this is getting tiresome. Can you just let this one go? You clearly won, you rubbed their noses in pool of their own piss, it’s a closed issue. Returning to it (either with this post, or with the several hours long twitch stream playing that godawful game) just makes you come off as petty. And you’re bigger than that. You are, right?

It’s insane how the studio (one dude most likely), will go so far to defend this fucking game. It’s insane. What I find just as crazy though, is how a game like this makes it up on Steam and the developer is able to charge 9.99 for it. Crazy times.

What the hell happened to the lip syncing at the end of the video? Is it just me or did The Jimquisition turn into an old kung fu movie?

I find it amazing that a so-called “studio” would respond in such a way. They hit the Raccoon trap and the noose gets tighter with every wiggle believe me I know ! FistShark Marketing has a way of keeping their employee’s from leaving the slaughtering grounds. Keeping one garbage ware title under his thumb at time , triple trick hoe’s need not apply !!! Thanks ” Jim Fn Sterling Son” !! Drops Mic, (((((feeeeeedback ))))

On a somewhat unrelated note: if you have any free time now Jim (since stepping out from under the wing of your previous employers) I encourage you to revisit the quisition videos when you began syndication on The Escapist. Those early videos were gobsmacking brilliant, like you were spitting Lou Reed level slight of tongue revealing insights into the human psyche that were much more profound than mere games. I think you had a lot more to prove then, and felt like you were under pressure to emerge a relevant figure but were unwilling (most likely unable) to do that… Read more »

I always imagine it being one word, like a last name: Jim Fuckingsterlingson. Also, it’s pretty embarrassing to see IU still fighting for legitimacy after this. It’s just so… childish. At this point, you’d be hard-pressed to convince me the developers aren’t just a couple of 14-year olds. It’s all so utterly silly. But if I may offer some advice: Hound these assholes. If they dare squirt out another “game”, tear its throat out with your teeth and spit blood in their eyes. Figuratively, of course. Unless the game they develop also happens to have a physical trachea, in which… Read more »

I find it so odd that there aren’t laws against abusing copyright infringement claims like they did. There seems to be lots of laws allowing them to point their finger and yell, “HE WAS MEAN TO ME!”. These laws are in place for a good reason, but I honestly think making such a claim should carry a VERY hefty commitment on the part of the accuser.

Yo dawg I heard you like reviews so I reviewed your review so you can review while you review!

Lame jokes aside, great video as usual. Does this mean we will see a triple length feature if they keep it going even further? 😀

MORE LIKE DIGITAL SUICIDE AMIRITE GUYS?

(Well, *somebody’s* told that totally original joke every single time this has come up, it seemed like a shame to break the streak now…)

But seriously, this whole thing has been astonishing. I do sort of hope that this ten-minute beating is enough to put it to bed, though.

Dear God!

I think this audio clip from The Simpsons sums up ImminentUprising’s predicament perfectly.

http://youtu.be/b97zJxKEqAk?t=4s

This is the kind of stupidity that needs to be taken out to the back of the woodshed and put two deer slugs in its head.

Thank God for Jim Fucking Sterling, Son.

I’m sorry Jim, but I think you may have had some serious audio issues in that vid. I could barely hear a word you said over the sound of a terrible game developer getting taken behind the woodshed for eleven glorious minutes.

The fact that there wasn’t a literal mic-drop at the end was slightly disappointing, but it was still a fun episode all around. Keep up the great work, Jim fucking Sterling 🙂

I like how you showed an example of a responsible, positive reaction to criticism (yours even) just to how Imminent Uprising could have handled the situation a thousand times better. So, thank god for Jim fucking Sterling son.
