The Jimquisition names its inaugural Winners & Losers of E3!

What killed? What died? We celebrate and jeer what Xbox, PlayStation, Nintendo, Bethesda, Electronic Arts, and Ubisoft had to offer.

Dangit! Now that Jim watches wrestling not even this place is safe when I’ve missed a PPV and don’t want it to be spoiled… or is it? (I got up to “congrats to James Ellsworth.”)

BG&E2 being a prequel is kind of annoying considering how they ended BG&E1, but since it’s the same director I’ll take it. At least Ubisoft didn’t just give the game to a completely different team and tell them to make a sequel to ‘that game everyone seems to want’.

wwe making mockery of groundbreaking women’s matches isnt a new thing, they done it in the past, remember when Santino Marella in drag, won the first womens royal rumble?

That totally authentic Division MP chatter had me laughing way more than I should have. Too real, man

Last thing, I’m hearing and reading stuff about many members of the gaming press being openly and actively nasty to non gaming press and fans that were this year because of 15,000 tickets sold there and the longer lines (neither of which are their fault, that’s on the ESA).

Stuff like an IGN member having a tantrum, one gaming press member complaining about D.VA cosplayers being there and having fun while Booth Babes aren’t and just all sorts of elitism and open contempt.

How much of this is true because it’s hard to figure out what rumors or not?

Also, I’ll admit, I didn’t like the look of Anthem? It looked so bland and the first things I thought of was Evolve and Destiny, neither are good things.

Also same with Rare’s new game, didn’t wow me.

If everyone could recognize the Mic Trick this time and it actively damaged a game’s reveal, wouldn’t it mean that it’s now completely failing at its original intent? In which case, why bother calling for companies at E3 to stop doing it like it hurts the consumer more than the companies themselves? (Unless it does still hurt consumers more in the long term, but I’m not sure…) I might think we’d appreciate the opportunity to revel in seeing sleazy companies shoot themselves in the foot in this fashion every year now, since they probably wouldn’t deserve respect in general like… Read more »

I was definitely one of those people who didn’t agree about the scripted mic chat stuff to begin with. I was wrong.

Also, let a new Elder Scrolls game come out set in Valenwood with the super intelligent Gorillas, migrating tree cities, jungles, were-crocodiles and cities made of bones and flesh.

I’ll admit, Nintendo sold me on that Rabbids x Mario game, that looked so fun, same with Sony and Spider-Man game (surprised they used Mr Negative).

Love Pauline’s new design for Odyssey as well.

I refuse to buy Battlefront 2 and Marvel vs Capcom Infinite because I don’t trust either and after Street Fighter V and so many example, no, I don’t buy a word Capcom tells me.

“A service that definetely *isn’t* paid mods because Bethesda said it wasn’t. It’s definitely paid mods because *I* say it is.”

I’ll just say this: Devolver Digital’s E3 presentation made me subscribe to their Twitter account.

Now that I think about it, why didn’t Devolver Digital get Cecil Baldwin to do their conference?

The Creation Club has potential, at least. I agree with TB, it’s “mercenary development,” outsourcing to amateurs and paying them for it. If the information is correct, they get paid not just for downloads, but for the completion of the content. They can’t re upload existing mods, and Bethesda supports them internally. It’s an independent contractor’s job, and only superficially “modding”. And I’ve always been fine with modders getting paid for their hard work, if the content is worthwhile. I’d gladly drop a few bucks for The Forgotten City or unique companion Recorder. Nexus has a donate button? Nobody donates.… Read more »

Is it wrong, or just “the way things should be” if the only human being I recognize in this video is Jim Sterling?

Th…that lady in the advert actually said “holmes” …oh dear god, what otherworldly [♪SKELETON WARRIORS♫] are scripting these??? Get a Mexican speaking actor who can pull it off with style, not these people. Even Christian Bale did a better job in Harsh Times. Just coerce him to tr…on second thoughts, no…keep him faaarr away from this brand of humiliation. Something is quite wrong in VG advertisement and entertainment that invites regular cringe so bad I almost fold up inside myself to die quietly of shame. Devolver has upped the game (so to speak) for E3 now. The beauty of good… Read more »

I’m hesitant to give Ubisoft credit for BG&E 2. We’ve been here before with a vague cinematic trailer so this one means fuck all until they follow it up with something more substantial. Is there even a planned release window? Also remember it’s 2017 Ubisoft making it so there’s every chance the game will be the dull formulaic procession that every other Ubisoft game from the last 5 years has been.

I’d have said indie games were a big winner this year. A lot of interesting looking stuff there where as most of the AAA stuff looked incredibly dull.

I thought Devolver Digital’s presentation devolved (pun intended) from bonkers surrealism at the start to just trying too hard by the end.
I mean, I get that they were parodying the standard E3 presentation format of trying too hard from word one and getting even worse from there, but c’mon guys, take it down a notch.

My Winner of E3 was Metroid: Samus Returns, a title that tells us that Nintendo knows exactly how fucking long it’s been. I was thoroughly impressed and overjoyed at the 40 minutes of gameplay they showed off and I am happily and somewhat ashamedly preordering it. Yeah yeah I know Jim just shamed a bunch of people applauding preorders but at least I’ve seen enough of the game to know I definitely want it. I’m not one of those people who preordered Destiny before we even knew what fucking genre it was. Overall it’s gonna be a very long 3… Read more »

I think Sony’s nailed the future of E3 conferences while Microsoft still had one foot in the past. Way, way too much Phil trying to Phil his way out of the Phil’ing problem that Microsoft has no exclusive games. And in a very transparent way they emphasized it by screeching, “exclusive” as often and as stupidly as possible. I did enjoy him being asked about it by every journalist worth their salt, though. His answer to Gamespot for example being amusing in its, “Wut? Wut do you want? How could I have done better? Just tell me and I’ll ignore… Read more »

Well if Bethesda can get the paid mods done right I don’t really see the problem with them.

Playing extended clips of cringey E3 presenters should be considered abuse, and you should be in jail, Jim

The only winner at E3 was Mattress Firm, because the whole thing was a fucking snooze!
