I’m amazed nobody mentioned the fact that Jim DID NOT cut that dead air out somewhere around an hour into the discussion.

Why isn’t this theme tune at the end on every subsequent episode? I had to skip this one due to being busy, but it’s a great song for this podcast.

Did nobody notice during the fight between Possessed Jimmy and Billy, Jimmy, punches a Double Dragon arcade machine?

Didn’t realize this until looking up the cast.

This movie was written by Paul Dini!

Regarding future episodes that would be very different from Need For Speed…Are either of the Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within or Final Fantasy Advent Children on the table in the near-ish future?

Oh or maybe even Wing Commander?

Those are all going to be hit at some point, I have no doubt.

I quite enjoyed that end theme. Also the podcast was good I guess.

Love the show; but the intro to this episode just about made my head explode.

“Neon is the *best Double Dragon*”
“DD NES has 2p simultaneous play” (unless you’re referring to the weird Vs. mode?)
“DD is too simplistic compared to later brawlers”
“River City *Rampage*”

I guess it’s no fluke that Wayforward didn’t even know what the hell a DD game played like when they were tasked with making one themselves. This was one of the most well known, widely ported arcade franchises from the 80’s and knowledge about it (and what made it great) just seems to be rapidly evaporating away. Unbelievable.

I remember playing the NES version. It had 2 player simulations play through the standard game.

Loved Street Fighter, and even enjoyed Mortal Kombat reasonably well, but didn’t dig Double Dragon so much. I think the broad kiddy-humour really did it in for me, although there were some moments of pure joy to be had (particularly the Postmen, they were fantastic).

I’m going to have to check out Need for Speed, if it’s riffing on F&F it can’t be that bad… right? Unless, y’know, it completely forgets the characters, which is entirely possible. :/

I loved all 3 Streets of Rage games (Streets of Rage 2 being my favourite). They are some of the few Mega Drive games that I still dip into regularly. I agree that it’s a missed opportunity for a remake. Done right, it could end up like the new Doom, a blend of modern game design with the simple fun of chi blasting and cartwheel kicking bad guys.

I expected this movie to be garbage because of like how low it scored on like the movie critic sites, saying it is the worstest movie ever. Also, RLM recently covered it in their Best of the Worst series where they said it was terrible but… I kind of loved it? It was the perfect kind of enjoyable bad movie, much like Street Fighter. Like Conrad said, I love the tackiness of the props and the sets, its just really, idk, cute. I really liked some of the matte paintings, especially during the river chase sequence.I thought the movie had more… Read more »

Sorry to dissapoint, we’ve got more of a shot of going “Escape from L.A” or “Demolition Man” than Double Dragon’s flooding/fun gangs – from Los Angeles

Still might be improvements. I’m willing to take the risk.

Thank you for this episode. It was great and defiantly lived up to the deliciousness of the movie. I was laughing a lot. It made my day. Really it did. 🙂

The Warriors is my favorite movie of all time. It has influenced almost every work of fiction I’ve ever tried (and failed) to create. If you are challenging me to make a game in which you go through an open world city traversing the neighborhoods of several Warriors style gangs that get more dangerous at night then challenge fucking accepted. And yes you will a hundred percent be in it, Jim. You’ll be the leader of the Bottomfeeders. A gang from a previous project that never got of the ground. A group of frogsuit and gas mask wearing sewer dwelling… Read more »

Completely disagree that DD is better than BloodRayne (at least for adults). DD is really very much a little kids movie (similar to Mighty Morphin Power Rangers in general tone), with simply terrible acting (except Robert Patrick) and I personally couldn’t enjoy it even ironically. The only thing I thought was quite well done was the mattes used for New Angeles – the post-quake city looked better than it ought to given the quality of the rest of the film.
Also Jim you forgot to edit out that silence at 108. In fact I think you forgot to edit anything(?).

This podcast went down hill fast jim forgeting his opening and being really of his game, going of track all the time, jim and conrad having a fight in the middle, and the silence in the middle that jim forgot to edit out. I blame this on wreck-it ralph it was so good that it put jim and conrad off there game. I think you should avoid good films from now on as they may destroy the podcast and i need this in my life.

True, but the overall quality of the writing, acting (except Robert Patrick) and the costumes (especially Abobo) reminded me of the power rangers.

Eh, Power Rangers itself didn’t make its own action. That all came from Super Sentai or whatever it was called.
Yeah, the writing was kind of laughable.
