“Flappy Bird made 50k a day, will Nintendo take note?”

A legitimate headline from a soulless twatty hack.

i REALLY had a good laugh at “IGN is right”.

I absolutely love watching these – my wife and I get a kick out of every episode. You keep doing you, Jim. It wouldn’t be any fun if you didn’t rustle a few jimmies every week!

A) Nintendo was always a company with a very casual appeal. I mean…let’s be blunt here “casuals” typically include literal children and Nintendo made it’s empire off of all of us when we were all literal children. B) VR mostly sucks. VR will likely always mostly suck and have only a handful of exceptions. Why? VR is likely to make a lot of people motion sick a lot of the time. Not the same people all of the time, but most of the people some of the time. C) I’m a PC gamer and I’m pretty damn elitist about it.… Read more »

I have no idea what “casual” even means any more, you have the bazillion of kiddies playing COD who are “hardcore” because they only play flavor of the month AAA games, casuals who are apparently the people nintendo were apealing to with those balls hard NES games that indie games emulate, but people playing only the balls hard NES emulating indie games aren’t casuals but are hardcore.

It is almost like the dichotomy is false and largely a marketing thing.

Segment 1: It sounds like somebody realizes his VR headset was a massive waste of money and is trying to rewrite reality to feel good about his investment. Segment 2: While I do think fear is subjective I’m getting VERY tired of people calling RE7 a jumpscare fest. While yes it does have a few of them there really are moments where the tension squeezes harder on your chest until the jumpscares make it pop. If you wanna complain about jumpscares complain about Until Dawn. That shit just got tiring. Segment 3: Uh. No. I guarantee you there’s more casuals… Read more »

If they think Jim just “uses a mocking voice over legitimately good points,” then they must not be familiar with the rest of his work. Sterling has torn down elitist sentiments repeatedly, done entire Jimquisition about people so far up their own asses that they need to belittle how other play games to feel good about themselves. But, it’s to be expected that some of these people just don’t have the self awareness to get the joke.

You imply such people had self awareness to begin with :3

VR: I really hope all games don’t become VR, VR gives me eye strain in about 30 minutes of play time and motion controls can be painful for me if the lack a left handed setting (I couldn’t finish Skyward Sword because of this). For me, VR systems are like Arcade sticks, a clear niche market for them, collectors items and will continue to be somewhat successful with a particular fanbase, but can’t see it become mainstream. RE7: Haven’t played so I can’t say about it but from RE games I’ve played (1, 0, 4 and 6), aren’t they all… Read more »

It’s hard to tell right now. What the latest round of VR headsets has shown in that they can, in theory, provide an incredibly immersive experience. However, the hardware just isn’t there yet, both in terms of image fidelity, and the ease of use that is required of a product that wants to be accepted as mainstream. I would expect VR to remain a small niche, until we get vastly superior headsets, and affordable high-powered devices to drive them.

Yeah, I dunno about you guys, but I’m having a hard time seeing how a hypothetical Europa Univeralis V or hypothetical Supreme Commander 3 or hypothetical War for the Overworld 2 or the actual Pillars of Eterntiy 2 Deadfire or AI War 2 would be so much better off as VR games…

I’m in the same boat TBH, being someone who wears glasses. I simply can’t use VR at all without removing them. Y’know, ontop of the Vive still costing nearly £750.

I agree. VR may be great for certain people and/or experiences but it isn’t for me. I get motion sickness very easily. After just a few minutes of VR I feel horribly ill. I hope the gaming industry gets it figured out though. It would be interesting to see what kind of new experiences VR could bring to the table.

Yeah the whole “the eighties were so hardcore” thing is incredibly disingenuous when you realize hardcore gaming didn’t even exist back then. =/

There aren’t actually a lot of jump scare moments in the main RE series before they went full action. Fixed-angle Tanky RE was fantastic at level design and properly building tension. You get a constant release from being able to actually kill most of the common monsters and solve puzzles, but there are notes everywhere talking about things which are much worse and could jump out of the sky any second. You spend precious ammo and resources on that little reliable relief, when your brain is screaming at you that it gets worse later on: It always gets worse. While… Read more »

So when the’s Humunculus getting his own series?

Barloq

I like him as much as the next guy, but how the hell could the Haemonculus sustain his own series? He’s perfect as a cut-away gag.
